Joe Buczkowski founded LeaseRunner in 2011 as an online rental management platform for independent landlords. Over more than a decade of building the product and listening to the market, Joe saw an opportunity to bring real data science to rental screening — giving landlords a more reliable way to measure whether an applicant could truly afford the rent.

Before LeaseRunner, Joe spent a decade working at the intersection of law and real estate — as an in-house attorney handling landlord-tenant matters, and as an asset manager overseeing corporate real estate development across multiple markets. He holds a JD/MBA from the University of Colorado (2001), with concentrations in Law, Real Estate, and Finance, and served as an Adjunct Professor of Business at CU Boulder from 2003 to 2010, teaching Entrepreneurial Finance and Financial Markets.

At LeaseRunner, Joe maintains direct oversight of the company’s legal and compliance framework — including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, NACHA payment regulations, and residential real estate statutes — ensuring every lease, form, and screening tool on the platform is accurate, current, and legally defensible.
